Friday

It was cold this morning. It was cold when I got here. I came out of my jacket pretty early though and it was nice. There's a big difference when you're walking out there, lugging this bag around, talking to Se Ri and getting her from point A to point B.

The wind was basically the same direction it has been all week. North to North East. There was just more of it today. The biggest challenge today was the wind. It was more intense.

It was a tough day. We made three doubles today and five doubles in two days and you can't advance when you do that. If we were playing a normal event we probably wouldn't have made the cut, so it's just the same.

It was an up and down day today. We started out good. We needed to make some birdies early and we birdied one. We three putted on two and made bogey and then we birdied three. So we were just kind of hanging in there. We were hitting it good but weren't putting as good as we could have. We had a nice eagle on 15 to kind of get us back in there. And then we doubled two of the last three holes and just had a couple of bad swings. It happens. We made a double on 16. We hit the ball in the back bunker which I'm sure was a pretty popular spot today. With that wind into us we had 138 yards total. We hit a 7-iron and the wind was moving left to right and in pretty hard. We flew it about six steps too far.

On this golf course all the trouble is to the right. So someone who draws the ball on this course has a advantage over a player who hits a cut shot. Every hole has trouble to the right and we knew that going into this week. Every golf shot that we hit into the water was a solid shot we just started too far right.

Anytime Se Ri doesn't win she's upset. She's more disappointed. I wouldn't really call it upset. Like all your top notch players, they are out here for one reason and that is to win. Second place is the first loser and that's how they look at it. I personally like that she doesn't care if she finishes second or 52nd. It's all the same to her if she doesn't win. Se Ri and I had a lot of fun. We'd love to be playing the next two days but we both need rest.

Se Ri is going to be in the states for a few more days. She's going to head off to Korea for a day or two and then head to Japan for the King's Cup where Team Korea takes on Team Japan. She will then head to Australia for the Lexus Cup where she is captain of the Asian Team. She's really looking forward to being captain. It's been a lot of work and everything is still kind of up in the air because the money still counts and world rankings until Monday. It should be fun. It's a long way to get there.

Overall it was a wonderful year. I'm very proud of her. We had a busy year. We won once and she was inducted in the LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame. We've set some different goals for next year and I look forward to having a really good year next year.

During the off season I'll call her every few days to just check in and see how she's doing. When she goes back to Korea I don't really keep in contact with her because she doesn't do the whole emailing thing. And then about a month before we get ready to leave for the first tournament I'll head up to Orlando a day or two a week to work with her and Tom. I want to be there to support her.

She works very hard. She'll probably start working with Tom around the first of the year. They will work together six days a week. She'll meet him about 8 a.m. and work until about noon, so about four hours a day. Practicing consists of hitting balls for about an hour and a half to two hours a day, chipping for 30 to 40 minutes and then putting for about an hour. She works pretty hard and it's obvious by how well she's playing.

We're going to have to get together about her schedule next year. I think with the short break we have we may only play one event in Hawaii. We may end up playing three in a row but that would really surprise me. She doesn't like to be gone more than three weeks at a time. It's too hard on her. She gets home sick. We'll also look at the golf courses she likes to play and then we'll go from there. We gotta go to the golf course we play well first.

How did you become Se Ri's caddie?
I knew her coach Tom Creavy really well. He called me up and said Se Ri was looking for a caddie and he thought we would work really well together. We ended up winning my second week on the bag. I'm her good luck charm. I really like it out on the LPGA Tour. We're like a big family. The other tour was very individualized and I really didn't know many other caddies and I was out there for a couple of years. It's been a lot of fun. I've met a lot of people.

What's your favorite event?
I would have to say all the majors. Probably the U.S. Open because the courses are a bit harder. You've got to think a lot. On those courses you can't just go out and fire it down the fairway. You've got to take a lot into consideration. Playing at St. Andrews this year was really neat. I hope that tournament can get into our British Open rotation.

One of my favorite stops on Tour is when we go to Havre de Grace, Maryland for the McDonald's LPGA Championship. I love the crab up there. The food is good. I like any stop that is near the beach. The beach is so relaxing for me.

What's the hardest part about being a caddie?
I'd have to say the travel. You're traveling every week and getting on a plane, going from point A to point B and you'll miss a couple flights a year. I only lost three bags this year which isn't bad. Make sure you take a change of clothes with you in your carry on incase you don't get your bags the next day. Last year at the British Open Se Ri didn't get her golf clubs until Wednesday night and then she had to play on Thursday. That's bad.

How does someone become a caddie on Tour?
My suggestion would be to go try and find a bag at Tour school and just hope you get through and that should get you one. That's probably the best way. You've got a lot of younger players coming out. It's a good way to get in with them, stick with them, build a good relationship and go. There are always people looking for jobs there. If you work hard you'll be successful in whatever you do. Hubert Green this week at the Hall of Fame induction said, "If you're going to dig a ditch, dig a good ditch." So whatever it is that you do make sure you do it well. My dad always told me, anything that is worth doing is worth doing well.

You need to know a lot about golf. Playing golf always helps. It's a lot about communication out there. I have to know what Se Ri wants. You have to learn what your player wants.

Any tips for our upcoming rookie class?
Make sure you have your schedule down. Your travel schedule is the hardest thing out here. And it's tough for them because they don't know what tournaments they are getting in to. Also get a good management company. IMG is great for Se Ri. They take care of everything. She and I both could not do what we do without IMG. We have a girl there Michelle who is wonderful. I probably talk to her four times a day. We're so lucky.

Thursday

How did it go out there today?
It was hot. The wind was blowing. The wind switched in the middle of the day like we figured it would. We played good. We really played well. We played the first 13 holes really good. We just made two bad swings coming down and made double on 17 and 18. She hit it in the water. But 17 is a hard hole. It's a good golf hole. We hit 4-iron today into the wind. It went into the water right and we made double bogey. We made another double on 18 after hitting it in the water again.

We're still in it. Sixteenth place is only two over. I have a feeling that T16 will go to three over so we just have to go out and play good early. We have to set precedence and go get it done. It's not anything she's never done before. I think it's really important to go out in the morning and get started good. I think she'll do fine.

Did Se Ri get frustrated at all coming down those two holes?
Not really because we made good swings on both of the tees and just started too far right and that happens. On 18 you have to miss left. You can play all day down the left but you can't play it down the right.

(Laughing) We actually got lucky because on 18 the ball cleared the hazard. We almost hit a camera man. If we would have hit the camera man it would have been perfect but instead it kicked right into the water. Those guys need to help us out and take one for the team. The guy just got out of the way. It had already bounced once if he had just let it hit him in the chest. It's not going to hurt. If he could have only taken one for the team.

How do you prepare for tomorrow?
We hit balls for about 30 to 40 minutes after her round today. We putted for a few minutes but we were putting alright. I think we'll play fine tomorrow. We've got to get to about one or two under on the first five or six holes and then get underneath the number and watch the scoreboard a little bit.

There will be a lot of scoreboard watching tomorrow from a lot of people. Se Ri is not usually a scoreboard watcher. I watch it most of the time and she'll want to know what's going on. If need be I'll let her know and sometimes I won't let her know. I just depends on a lot of variables. If she's playing good she's not looking at the scoreboard but I know what is going on so it kind of helps. If she wants to watch the scoreboards I can't tell her not to.

Are you going to do anything different tomorrow?
We're going to fire at a few more pins. She's driving it good. We're going to keep her in the center of the fairway. We will take a little bit more aggressive route and especially early. It's very important we get her going early.

There is the possibility of a playoff tomorrow for the final spots. How will Se Ri handle that?
In that playoff we'll be playing the two best holes on the golf course numbers 17 and 18. And that's the way it should be. You shouldn't go out and play an easy golf hole. Knowing Se Ri and the way she handles pressure she'll be fine even though she made two doubles on them today. She'll make the best swing of her life and I know it. I know one thing. She won't miss it right. She might miss it some where else but it won't be in the same spot we just hit it.

Do caddies think about the million dollar payday too?
Oh yea. It's the biggest payday of the year. It's real simple. You've got to win two majors to get this kind of payday. It's an easy way to do it. I think we should play with all the money going to the winner. I've got the best player so that's what I want to do. There's probably about 10 caddies out here that will give you that same answer.

What are you going to buy if Se Ri wins the million dollars?
I'm thinking about buying a new house so that will help quite a bit. Like Se Ri I will donate some money to my charity Give Kids The World. It's a neat part of the Children's Miracle Network. They are an organization that brings terminally ill kids down to Orlando to go to Disney World. That's what it's all about.

Players will change the way they play tomorrow but will caddies change the way they caddie tomorrow?
Of course. Tomorrow we've got to take a more aggressive line and fire at more pins. If we would have shot five under instead of five over we wouldn't be taking a more aggressive line. You can't win the golf tournament today. All you can do is advance.

How much does the average golf bag weigh?
This week we have a new golf bag. It is huge but it weighs less. The one we normally use weighs about 60 pounds. It weighs as much as any other bag out there. This one only weighs about 40 to 45 pounds.

Do you travel with Se Ri?
When we leave a tournament to go to another tournament site we always travel together. We do it for safety reasons and if we're going to get stuck I'd rather us be stuck together.

What are the essential caddie tools?
I always have a black sharpie because her line comes off the ball. I keep both of our lip balms in my pocket. Two different types so we don't get them mixed up. I have a yardage book which has this year's book, last year's book, and one from a few years ago. I always keep one or two from the previous' years to see what we hit off the tee and stuff like that.

It has which direction the ball goes on the green. We write how far to the front, how far total, how far it plays up and down, how far the ball flies, and how far it rolls out in the book. So there are sometimes four to six numbers for each hole.

How does Se Ri mark her ball?
She puts a little red heart above the number.

What does Se Ri eat on the course?
She eats a banana every day. She eats it after she drives it off the 10th tee. I also give her a water and make her eat and drink all of it.

What's the weirdest thing Se Ri has signed?
Over in Korea this year she signed a lot of wallets. A lot of cell phones and wallets. I don't get it. We signed a lot of shirts for guys. I've even been asked to sign a few autographs over in Asia.

How did you get into caddying?
I worked the men's tour for a couple of years with a guy named Danny Ellis about seven years ago. I caddie at Seminole Golf Club in Jupiter, Fla. Se Ri actually put a Seminole Golf Club ball marker in her exhibit at the Hall of Fame which means a lot to me. I work there everyday in the winter time. It keeps my mind sharp. I'm really good with numbers. I feel like if I take the off season off I might make a mistake and if you deal with numbers everyday I'm not going to make a mistake.

Are you one of those guys who can recall the club used at a specific tournament and round? And I'm going to give you a little test. Jamie Farr this year, final round, hole 15.
Yes. I can't exactly tell you how far it flew but I can remember what golf club. Hole 15 Morgan Pressel and Se Ri were tied. We had 138 to the hole and the wind was in right to left. We hit an 8-iron in there about three feet and we went on to win the golf tournament.

Before you go anything else you want to say?
It's funny because all the girls are telling me how they are reading my blog this week. I've got to give a shout out to Annika Sorenstam and Morgan Pressel for being the first to tell me they couldn't wait to read my blog again. Thanks girls!

Wednesday

I met Se Ri about 7:45 this morning. We played with four really nice guys from ADT. We shot 8-under which is not a very good score for a Pro-Am but we had a lot of fun. I think 17-under won the Pro-Am today so we got murdered. But all the guys had fun so that is the main goal. Se Ri always has a great time and we tend to play better when having a good time in the Pro-Am.

We got done playing and then we practiced with Se Ri's teacher Tom Creavy for about 30 to 40 minutes. We putted for about 15 minutes and then Se Ri did a couple of interviews before going to work out in the trailer. She's having a little hip problem. We withdrew last week because she has a very severe hip pointer but she is doing a little better with it this week.

The golf course is a little wetter today. It looks like we got some rain last night. There weren't any pins out there today. Normally they put a little dot where the pin placement for the next day will be. So when people see us walking around we are looking for that dot so we can step it off. So when people think we're just out there twiddling our thumbs we really are just looking for the dot.

It was a really low-key day. A good practice day. Se Ri is hitting it really well. She has her teacher here and that seems to go hand in hand because when he's around she hits it better. My suggestion is to have him around every week.

We tee off tomorrow at 10:42. Se Ri and I always meet two hours before her round. She works out a little bit before and then we'll start warming up an hour and a half before. We hit balls for about 30 or 40 minutes. We'll putt for about 20 minutes and then we just talk for 20 minutes. We gotta get that time in there too.

We've got a new bag this week. It's a Hall of Fame bag which we're going to use this week and win a million dollars with it and then it is going into the Hall of Fame and stay in her display forever. It's got her new clothing line logo on each side. On the back of it is the World Golf Hall of Fame logo and on the front it has the Big Horn Golf Course logo. It's got her name and about 8 logos on it. It's wider than I am. You should see me walking with it. It's huge. So hopefully that thing will make us a million bucks.

How does playing a Pro-Am prepare Se Ri for the tournament?
The good thing is she gets to see the golf course one more time. The conditions will be pretty much the same as long as we don't get a lot of rain tonight or a lot of wind because the wind will dry it out just as much as the rains soften it up.

You can putt around. I know where all the pin placements were last year so I threw a couple of balls out there and had Se Ri putt around to all the different pins. It's a good day of preparation. You're coming out here and playing 18 holes and it's a little more relaxed. Pro-Ams are very important because if we didn't have them we wouldn't be playing out here for as much money as we are.

Se Ri has a lot of fun. She helps them with their golf swing and messes with them a little bit. They're always nervous on the first couple of holes until I loosen them up.

Tomorrow we're playing with Natalie Gulbis and her caddie Greg Sheridan so we should have a lot of people out watching us. We always play good with Natalie. Se Ri really likes her and they are good friends, so I really like the draw.

How is Se Ri's demeanor on the golf course? Is she more serious or having fun?
She is serious but I tend to try and keep her loose. She plays better when she doesn't think about golf. We will talk about anything in the world besides golf when we are out on the course. It keeps her relaxed. The only time you really need to concentrate is when you take the club out of the bag and hit the shot, so what is that 20 seconds. So in a full day on the golf course you're probably only concentrating 20 minutes. There's a lot of down time out there. And if she's playing well she likes to chat. Sometimes you can get sort of robotic on the golf course but if you just learn to relax you'll play a lot better.

Is Se Ri superstitious?
Are you kidding me? Odd numbers. She always uses odd numbers. She puts five long tees in her hair and five short tees in her right pocket. She only plays with balls that are marked one and three. She always starts the day with a three but if she's not playing well then I'll make the decision to switch to a one. We chip in the morning with twos and we play Pro-Ams with fours. People will always say to me, "TJ you give her 10 tens," and I do but she puts five in her hair and five in her pocket.

When she goes to the grocery store she'll either buy one of something or three of something. She will not buy two of anything or four of anything. If she needs four of them she gets five. That's just the way she is.

We meet an hour and a half every time before her tee time. And you have to take into account "Se Ri time." If she tells you to meet at 8 o'clock she'll be there at 7:45. She's always 15 minutes early and that is what I call "Se Ri time."

Any lucky charms?
She's got a couple of coins she keeps in her bag. One gentleman gave her a Susan B. Anthony dollar the week of Jamie Farr and we won so that coin is still in the golf bag. She's got a few beads and I'm always asking if I can get ride of them but she always says no. She also has to have her bears on the side of her golf bag.

Tuesday

Tell us what yesterday was like at the LPGA Tour and World Golf Halls of Fame Induction Ceremony with Se Ri?
Yesterday was very, very exciting. Se Ri was nervous. She was nervous all day. She didn't really have a speech prepared. Once she kind of gets going you can't stop her. And what made her more nervous was everyone kept asking her how her speech was coming.

The Hall of Fame staff took really good care of us. We went to a luncheon where all of the Hall of Famers and Inductees sat around and told stories and that was a neat experience. Se Ri was overwhelmed. Every minute of the day was planned out. We had to be here for sound check to rehearse her speech which she never did and then media interviews. She also got to raise the Korean flag which will now fly there forever. That flag has never flown at the World Golf Hall of Fame before.

At the beginning of the night she was nervous. Luckily I got to talk to them and they made her second to go up on stage and talk. She didn't have to wait to long. She got up to give her speech. I thought she did a great job and she was very happy with it.

Does Se Ri feel like a lot of pressure has been lifted now that the induction is over?
It's unbelievable. When she came down off the stage after giving her speech, I was sitting next to her and it was like this big smile came over her face and I looked at her and said, "how you doing now?" and she said I feel great. That was something that was her number one goal. It took her 10 years to do it but she did it.

The problem that she is having now is setting different goals. We talked to Karrie Webb and got some advice. Now we've set a couple different goals but I'm not going to tell you what they are. It is real important for these girls to have goals.

One of them I will tell and that is to win the first major of the year the Kraft Nabisco Championship. That is the one major she has not won so it would give her a grand slam.

What has been your schedule since arriving at the ADT Championship?
We drove down from the Hall of Fame induction last night. Se Ri got to her hotel about 12:30 a.m. last night so she slept in a little today. We played nine holes today and practiced with her coach Tom Creavy and then I sent her off to the Pro-Am party.

Can you talk about the course this year?
The course is in good shape. It's a little softer than it was last year. There have been a few changes but not many. A few of the tees have been moved farther back. Not much rough.

The ADT Championship is a different type of event than normal. What do you do different this week?
This format is different with the scoring. I feel like if you shoot under par the first three days you'll get through it and that is what our goal is, to just shoot under par every day. The first few days we will play a little bit more conservatively. Comparably so, if we make it to Sunday we'll probably go after a few more pins.

It's a neat format. A different format. Last year was the first year for this format and I don't think people really knew what to expect but when it came down to Julieta Granada winning she had the lowest score for the four rounds. So whatever you do the best player is going to win and it's the same thing this week.

Is there anything you do differently going into this week?
Yea a little bit. Again we're going to be more conservative the first two days. There are a couple of par 5s where we're going to lay up the first two days no matter what number we have, because if we can put it in position I know we cannot make bogey. It's risk and reward and like on number three we will be laying it up. We'll take our chance and make a score that way. We're not going to take a chance and hit it in the hazard left. So its just the little things you have to do with this type of format and you have to think through it. We're both thinking right and we've talked to her teacher and he totally agrees.

How do you keep Se Ri on track and not thinking about that huge prize in the end?
Se Ri does want to win this because she wants to donate quite a bit of money to her charity over in Korea. It's a children's hospital over there that she has been involved with for 7 or 8 years. So she wants to play really well so she can make it a nice Christmas for them.
